National Exam Results
Our graduates have consistently performed very well at the NAMACB (National Ayurvedic Medical Associations-Certification Board) Exams for Ayurveda Counselor certification and Ayurveda Practitioner board certification.
Flexible Training Delivery
Our Training Delivery is flexible. A student can choose to join the ONLINE track and complete their entire training online*. Or, choose our hybrid model-where you attend mostly online and come in person for the internship.
Content Driven
Our curriculum is based on ancient Ayurvedic Texts (Caraka Samhita, Astanga Hrdyam, Susruta Samhita) written in Sanskrit that we have simplified and presented in simple English. We have created a content-driven system that breaks down every concept, and, then each concept builds on one another. Training is experiential.
Not only do the students gain a deeper understanding of theoretical philosophy and principles, but also learn the practicum and labs where they may learn to use spices, herbs, oils, and other natural remedies.
Training is delivered via lectures, podcasts, labs, internships, and client appointments, case discussions and practicums. Students may work in teams or individually for projects and community work is part and parcel of the final exam.
Students learn the practicum portion-whether cooking in their own kitchen, or basic knowledge of how to assess dosha imbalances in the body using traditional methods using marma, nadi, threefold biofeedback etc. This knowledge can be invaluable for those working in alternative medicine or wellness fields.
Amazing Instructors
Our Instructors are a mix of medical doctors and Ayurvedic Practitioners, Ayurvedic Doctors, and Spiritual Teachers. Two of our teachers-Monica B Groover (the Director) and Dr. Mithun Baliga are published, Authors. Monica Groover's book-
Meditation and Spiritual Growth
Another benefit of attending our Ayurveda school is that our focus is to provides a space to explore different aspects of spirituality and meditation and different modalities like yoga, Vedic Astrology, Qigong, chanting etc.
Many people find that taking part in these practices helps them to become more aware of their own bodies and minds, leading to greater self-awareness and insight into their own physical and mental health. Furthermore, learning about the spiritual aspect of healing can help deepen our understanding of how energy works within the body, allowing us to better assist our clients journey toward wellness.
Community Driven
Finally, when you attend Narayana Ayurveda either online or via a hybrid track, you will become part of a supportive community of friends, students, and teachers where you can share ideas with like-minded individuals interested in furthering their knowledge of alternative medicine.
This network can be beneficial if you ever need advice or want to discuss new techniques with experienced practitioners who have used them before.
Joining our Ayurveda college can provide many benefits for those seeking a deeper understanding of holistic healing practices such as herbalism, yoga, meditation, Ayurvedic pulse (energetic) assessment, pranayama exercises, dosha nutrition counseling, aromatherapy, and more.
Not only will you gain valuable knowledge about how to best serve your community, family, friends and clients but you will also become part of a supportive community dedicated to furthering its members’ knowledge in alternative medicine practices.

This is a deep dive into the concepts of Ayurvedic Nutrition. In Ayurveda, we have a concept of trayopastambha-three pillars of health and wellness. These are Ahara (Diet), Nidra (Sleep) and Brahmacharya (Preserving Ojas through discipline).
As nutrition is one pillar of health and wellness, this makes our module one of the most important foundational concepts. Our job is to help students learn about foods, recipes, and nutritional principles that apply to them. In addition, students learn to apply the same principles to their clients.
In AC101, we had only lectures and no labs or internships. Now, we start cooking labs (Online), learning about kitchen spices (labs onsite or in-person), and applying these principles to our mock clients.

In this module, students are introduced to too many topics as a birds-eye view of nearly all the Ayurveda Foundational principles. For example, not only do the students learn what is Ayurveda from ancient textbooks, and our regular Sanskrit jargon, but they also learn how to explain Ayurveda to a layman. We discuss differences and similarities between Ayurveda and other Complementary and integrative healing modalities.
We go into the origin of Ayurveda, the origin story, the mythological beginnings along with scholarly views in history books.
We start students with some basic strategies on how to study, get them started on a Sanskrit jargon/glossary.
We learn about the Ayurvedic philosophy (samkhya), the definition of health, and break it down, over and over again. We introduce students to Agni (digestive fire), Dhatu (Tissues), Mala (Wastes), Indriyas (Senses and their role in health), and Manas(mind).
Lectures are very information-dense followed by some days given to digest all this information. In addition, we have assignments, discussions, quizzes. Every lesson is layered on each other so there is repetition.
We also do the dosha test (prakrti and vikrti) in class as well as in homework. We learn about the 20 gunas that give the doshas their qualities. We learn briefly about the effect of season on doshas.
Students really enjoy the lesson on Karma and its effect on their wellness.

Do you offer any internships?
Yes, we offer internships both via in-person and online track.

Ayurveda Counselor Internship
INTERNSHIP requirement (AC107) may be completed online, or, in-person in Austin, TX*. Please note that the in-person internship may cost extra and students are required to make their own travel and hotel arrangements during the internship weekends.
Online Internship costs less. We offer a discounted cost for online Ayurveda counselors.
Students are required to complete a minimum of 100 hours and 50 client encounters during the internship done via client encounter observation, and participation.
Students can complete the lab and internship requirements in person by choosing the hybrid option. Or, students can choose to do internships completely online, via live or recorded broadcast appointments, or, any appropriate security software being used by the school.
One part of the Internship may include some lectures like ethics, the scope of practice, labs, demonstration of biofeedback, or creating paperwork, or materials for clients. It may also include arranging and actively participating in appointments with clients. The internship may also include in-person or virtual appointments, post discussions, paperwork, and planning. If this is done in person, it will be “recorded” for viewing later by online students.
Our Ayurveda Internship module AC107 is 100 hours and a minimum of 50 client encounters must be completed.
Schedule
Term 1-3: During terms 1 thru 3, the student observes the teacher, or, an advanced Practitioner student with a client in person* during internship* in person, OR, online via video. Students get a chance to ask questions post-interview. We strive to complete 25 client observations and 50 hours during this time .*
Term 3-6: At the end of term 3, students are ready to start seeing clients more actively and independently instead of just watching and observing. Student/client one-on-one may be done in person during an onsite internship with a teacher or Practitioner student helping out with paperwork and the creation of client protocols or herbs. Online students may do this one-to-one client encounter asynchronously with the student's family, community, friends, or other students within the group. Ideally, the student strives to complete 25 client encounters and a total of 50 hours. (Ideally 2 hours per client, however, it may vary according to the client)
Up to 25 client encounters must be devoted to the client one to one. Online Student is required to note client interview time in each report sent. Feedback on client encounters is given to the student in person for those attending in person. Online students are given feedback via video, or, online meeting software. Please note that students who will NOT be attending in person for active client participation may have to arrange their own clients.
*Do note that if you are planning to take the NAMA Certification Board exam, they may need you to do client observations in person. Please check with NAMA website directly. The transcript will reflect if the internship was done online or in person. If the student is planning to attend in person in Austin, they must bear the cost of airfare, travel and hotel.
NOTE
National Ayurvedic Medical Association (NAMA), a self-regulating membership organization has set guidelines for students who will begin their professional Ayurveda Counselor training post-January 1st, 2022 that state that an Ayurveda Counselor who plans to take the certification exam or apply for professional NAMA membership must include hands-on training, OR in-person internship. (For those are unable to travel here and want to take the NAMA exam, ask us about the "externship" option with an Ayurveda Practitioner in your area)
Without this component, the student may not qualify to take the NAMA Certification Board exam or apply for membership. NAMA certification board may not allow online-only Ayurveda counselor students to take this exam. So, taking the course 100% Online option is suggested for international students or those who do not wish to take this exam or apply for professional membership. Read more directly at their website- https://www.namacb.org/
Final Research Project
To enhance in-class learning, students are required to complete a final project outside of class related to the theory and practice of Ayurveda related to any of the class units.(AC101 thru AC112) This shall be facilitated by the class instructors. The project can take the form of workshops arranged by the school for the community, visiting Ayurveda shops or spas in your area, or, and/or writing articles for the school blog, and/or, doing research and reporting your findings, and/or conducting free Ayurveda seminars in their own community, etc.
Students will obtain the permission of the faculty before embarking on their projects.

Students now fill out intake forms, and, may suggest lifestyle and herb interventions under the direct supervision of a Practitioner or a teacher. The internship happens in separate weekends in Austin. If you are planning to take the NAMA Certification board exam, NAMA may require you to attend this in person. If you are unable to travel, we also allow an externship option for students outside the USA.
• Externship option for international students who cannot attend internship in United States may be available. The school may contact Practitioners and help arrange externship for international students only; however, the externship schedule and timing must be coordinated directly between the Practitioner and student.
• Community Engagement As part of the internship, the Practitioner students are required to complete 50 hours in community engagement as part of AP 110 with any of the listed activities. The students can teach Ayurveda to the public, do activities for their local community, use Ayurveda to support and help others. The project can take the form of educating the public about Ayurveda, teaching some foundation Ayurveda classes as a teaching assistant underclass instructors, doing free seminars, talks arranged by the school for the community, visiting schools, yoga studios, conducting Ayurveda engagement activities for the youth, running an online Ayurveda book club and/or writing articles for the school blog. Students will obtain the permission of the faculty before embarking on their projects. The final research project will include writing a FINAL REPORT on how they used Ayurveda for community engagement.
• Zoom- online preparation and discussion of client encounters with peers via zoom. Theory portion like ethics is done as a live online class
* Please note these 100 client encounters are in ADDITION to Counselor requirements. NAMA requires a total of 150 client encounters for Practitioners.
**If you are planning to take the NAMA Certification board exam in/after 2020, NAMA may require you to attend this in person
PRACTITIONER INTERNSHIP FOR IN PERSON STUDENTS
Client encounters are done in the following format
1. Observation:
A minimum of 50 in-person observation at our community clinic/internship at St Edwards University in Austin, Texas directly under teacher supervision. Those students who cannot travel watch and observe via zoom.
2. Observation follow-ups:
Follow-ups for the clients who have been seen in person is done via zoom directly under teacher supervision. Up to 3 follow ups may be done for one client, with teacher approval.
Before we send in all the ciikitsa protocols to the client we do a discussion of supervisor/students-each student creates different set of protocols-dietary/herbal/lifestyle-gets it approved by the supervisor and then we sent to the client. A zoom follow-up is done with client 4 weeks later, with students observing.
3. SUPERVISED
Within 4 months of program starting, students start becoming more active and are now in an active participant role but with supervision. An additional 50 client encounters are done by practitioner students in complimentary consultations/community clinics set up by Narayana Ayurveda at church/temples/herb shops/coworking places/ festivals. Counselor students observe them. These are done directly under a teacher supervision. Students give protocols then and there. There are NO follow ups as most clients are walk ins.
4. Discussion and feedback is given online or in person to students later on.
5. Towards the last 5 months of the program when we are sure students can handle clients, Practitioner students team up with counselor students and lead 50 client encounters in person and they are observed by either counselor students or new practitioner students. Counselor students help them practitioner students with paperwork like dosha test, typing up prototocols, creating client packet with herbs under their direct supervision. A teacher may be present but minimally observes and only interrupts if absolutely necessary. Follow-ups are done via zoom if needed. (Teacher is present if the client case is hard, if not, teacher may not be present for a follow up)

AYURVEDA COUNSELOR FAQ
1- How much time does it take to complete Ayurveda Counselor?
Ayurveda Counselor is 600 hours, and, it takes 12-13 months to complete Ayurveda Counselor online. If you are opting for Hybrid with some in-person mentorship, it may take longer.
2- Are you recognized by Ayurveda Accreditation Commission?
Yes, we are recognized by the Ayurveda Accreditation Commission. (Scroll down to see the recognized programs listed on their website)
https://www.ayurvedicaccreditation.org/recognized-programs/#AHC
3-I want to take the NAMA Certification board exam. Does your school prepare me for this
Yes, our course curriculum does prepare you for the exam to a certain extent. You still need to study on your own. Do note that in order to take the NAMA certification exam, they may require you to take in person classes. (30 percent of in-person contact hours are mandatory in order to qualify for NAMA membership or exam).
4-Can I continue my studies after Ayurveda Counselor?
Yes, once you have completed the 600 hours Counselor certification, you can apply for the 900-hour Ayurveda Practitioner. This is a 16-18 month time frame. The total hours required by NAMA for those wanting to take the NAMA are 1500 hours for Ayurveda practitioners.
5- How long does it take to finish the course?
We offer two tracks. Online only track and Hybrid track. If you wish to take the NAMA exam, then we advise the students to choose the Hybrid track. The hybrid track requires 180 hours of in-person mentorship/internship and may take up to 14-15 months to finish. Online only finishes within 12-13 months.
https://naya-ayurveda.com/ayurveda-catalog
6-Do you offer any internships?
Yes, we offer internships both via in-person and online track.
Students have to CHOOSE the option of the ONLINE track or HYBRID track. The online track is discounted to a thousand dollars and can be done completely online without zero traveling. This track lasts apx 12-13 months. NAMA certification board requires 180 hours of in-person classroom instruction under an instructor as per NAMA standards. This track can last 14 months or so.(If you cant travel, you can also choose an externship option-talk to us directly about that)
The hybrid track is not discounted.
6a- ONLINE TRACK
Online track students complete their internship via video conferencing. The student logs in and observes during a presentation of a client encounter, or, a live appointment via zoom or Microsoft Teams with a client. Students may also observe other students/teachers conduct these appointments, or discuss paperwork. There are a total of 6 terms. Each term has different requirements for what the online student is required to do. Students get a discounted rate compared to Hybrid track. (There is a discount of $1000 for online only students bringing the tuition fees to a very affordable 13 or 14 monthly payment)
7 - Can an online track person attend in person day
Yes, it is possible only if we have space available. The online student can attend for a rate of $100 per day provided we have availability. (1 internship day is 8 hours minimum. So, if you attend half a day-it will be $50. If you attend 2 days it will be $200 and so on)
7a HYBRID TRACK
For students who choose to do hybrid track-they attend online classes and also attend in-person internships. Students must RSVP and let us know in advance they are coming so we can hire an appropriate location. Internship in person costs $1000 which includes all internship days spread over 14 months, however if you miss even one weekend or session, you have to make up for that session which can increase the time duration of hybrid track sometimes. If you miss a day, you can make up either by attending online or in person. Do note that if you are planning to take the NAMACB exam-they require a certain number of in person hours.
Hybrid track students attend online classes, and, then travel to Austin on the scheduled internship dates. This track costs extra compared to the online track. The internship dates usually are from 9 am to 6 pm each day.
Students are informed of the internship location and time beforehand so they can book a hotel etc. Students have to book their own accommodation and travel expenses.
8 - Can I switch from Hybrid to online?
You can sign an addendum that you are switching and the pro-rated fees for internship days attended will be $100 per day. So, if you have attended 3 days-you'd owe a balance of 300.
9-What is the Tuition 2021-2022
Total Fees for monthly payment for the ONLINE track is $3910.
Full payment in an advance discount for ONLINE Track is $3553

Does your school have an affiliation/internship in India at an Ayurvedic hospital? (Many Ayurvedic schools offer this as part of training)?
No we dont at this point.
Ayurveda is a stand alone Medical System in India whereas in USA is only considered a complimentary medicine.
Indian students are considered Medical students and are governed under Indian Medical laws. The Indian Ayurveda students are allowed to treat and diagnose disease. Ayurveda is taught like Medicine and students are working with real time patients.Foreigners and outsiders are not allowed to touch the Indian patients and only allowed to watch them. Foreign students are demonstrated Panchakarma massage therapies by some mom and pop establishments like Abhyanga, Udvartana by many of these colleges. Students wont be allowed to practice in USA without a State Massage License.
Practice and teaching of Ayurveda as a modality in USA is different. There are no patients--only clients and practitioners can counsel them and work within their state laws. FDA does not recognized Ayurveda. In USA --Ayurveda is a complimentary health system rooted in Vedas and and Ayurvedic Practitioners are NOT allowed to practice medicine that includes diagnose, treat any disease. Ayurveda is integrated with Medical education in India, and Indian Ayurveda Students study 8 years in a university.
This is why, if you are not a medical doctor or a health professional we see Internships in India as not viable for our students. (At this point)

What is Blended Hybrid Format of Learning? How will this work?
Blended learning is a formal education program in which a student learns at least in part through delivery of content and instruction via digital and online media with some element of student control over time, place, path, or pace. (Wikipedia)
We use a hybrid system of blended learning training delivery. (See next FAQ). The classes are replicated in a Virtual Learning Environment, instead, of a physical location. Online classes are conducted via Webinars or Virtual Classroom using Webex. Live classes can be accessed on the ‘go' on your iphone, ipad, Android smartphone, tablet or computer.
Track A programs (except Ayurveda Yoga teacher training) and Block 1 is completely online and does not require you to travel at all.
Track B advanced programs follow a blended hybrid format. Online classes, as well as onsite intensives twice a year that double up as internship. This can be waived for some international students on a case by case basis on the discretion of the college. The classes are replicated in a Virtual Learning Environment, instead, of a physical location. It also includes traditional home study and onsite classroom at our location.
What are the components of the Hybrid Learning Model
